Hooker’s Hounds

We (that’s Sophie and I) take off leash groups to Fort Funston and McLaren Park daily, for fun and exercise. Leash walks are an option too for wanderers and those who need to work on their recall. I’m a dogTEC DWA grad, and Sophie’s a certified dog pro too …heck, Sophie’s a dog. We take small groups (usually no more than six dogs) for very active beach and trail walks/runs/swims. We also do pet sitting (drop in and sleep-over) and private walks for dogs that don’t do well in groups, or who are aggressive. We serve the south central and southwest part of San Francisco, from the Excelsior/Potola districts out to the beach, as well as Candlestick point and Daly City. Service is not limited to the zip codes listed. Check out the “Name That Breed” special on our site. Get it right, and we’ll walk your pooch free for a week.

Popular Dog Walker Searches

In the last 30 days, DogWalker.com has seen OVER 5,000 visitors! People visit the website to find a dog walking service in their area, and DogWalker.com allows them to search for dog walkers in their city – and sometimes right in their zip code and neighborhood.

In addition to dog owners who are searching for dog walkers, there are also dog walkers who visit the website to see what it’s all about. DogWalker.com is not a lead generation service. Once a dog walker signs up, there are no additional costs or expenses. One question I am frequently asked is what cities in which people are looking for dog walkers.

DogWalker.com is #1

Picture 1

If you want to have a successful dog walking service and allow clients to find you online, your website will need to finish high in the results of the major search engines. Otherwise, your company won’t be seen. DogWalker.com currently ranks #1 on Google, Yahoo and Bing for the search term of “dog walker!” In addition, it ranks right at the top on Google and Yahoo for the plural search term “dog walkers!” Not too shabby for a website that has been online for under a year.

Listings that come out at the top of the search engine rankings are the most likely to be clicked on by potential customers, and they are the best way to make sure that your dog-walking business gets noticed. This area used to be a relatively small niche, but now the arena is exploding online.

You can use sponsored listings so that your company will appear at the top of search engine results, but these are usually listed off to the side, not in the “general” results. They will be clicked on, but sometimes people who use search engines a lot have a tendency to click on the “natural” results. There are companies available online who can assist you in handling all your needs as far as set-up, management and reporting of results with pay-per-click advertising.

Regardless of the type of business that people are looking for online, you want them to be led to your site, if you offer what they need. But most websites are simply online brochures, if you don’t have high search engine rankings. To push your business to the top of the search results will enable you to transform your site into a hub for business. It will also tactically position your site to generate more sales for your company, as compared to other types of advertising.

If you don’t want to use sponsored listings, you’ll need to use the services of a company who can position your website skillfully in the top order of the “natural” listings. They will use keywords and key phrases that describe your business and services, so that more people will click through to your site.

Since DogWalker.com ranks so well in search engines, we get a lot of traffic. In fact, we’ve received well over 6,000 visitors in the last month alone! A listing on DogWalker.com can help bring your company business, and just one new client a year with a few walks will probably pay for the listing.

How to Find a Local Dog Walker

If you’re looking for a dog walker in your area, DogWalker.com will have listings for people who offer this service locally. This is just the starting point of your search, though. You will want to speak to some of the local dog walkers, and check on their level of experience before you hire one.

Many people consider their dogs as part of their family, and if they are leaving on a trip where the dog cannot come with them, or if they are just working late for a few nights in a row, they will want their best friend well taken care of. After you find the names of dog walkers in your area, be sure you ask for their references, and call previous customers, if their contact information is available, to find out if they were happy with the service by the person or the company you are looking into.

Dog walking sounds simple enough, but your potential dog walker needs to know how your dog is accustomed to being walked – on a harness, with a choker chain, any information that is pertinent to them. They will also need to know the best place near your home to take your dog walking, perhaps a local dog park. And it’s a good idea to have someone meet your dog before they walk him, to make sure there is a good chemistry between them. This may take some time, but it’s worth it, so that you’ll find a suitable surrogate for times when you’re not available for your dog.

Walking is a healthy way for your dog to exercise. You can hire a dog walker for a set period of time per day or per week. Most people prefer that their dog be walked twice a day, and you may want to check and see if your dog walker will also feed and water your dog and clean his crate or kennel, if he has one. If nothing else, make sure the dog walker provides plenty of fresh water for your dog. Most reputable dog walkers with do this, just relying on common sense. Check up on any potential dog walker before you hire one, to be sure your dog will be safely and properly treated.

Hiring a Dog Walker vs. Dog Day Care

Many people consider their dogs to be a precious part of their family. Deciding whether to hire a dog walker, or to take your pet to a dog daycare can be a big decision to make. Therefore, it is best to weigh the advantages and disadvantages before making one.

A dog day care center has the benefit of giving your dog attention while you cannot. You dog will also be able to socialize amongst other dogs of different sizes. Additionally, your dog will be fed on a normal schedule if necessary, and if you run late, most dog daycares are able to provide for your dog, giving you added flexibility.

These daycare advantages comes with a number of disadvantages. At a dog day care center, your dog will be just one of the many dogs that need to be cared for. It is likely that it will not get the full attention that it craves. Not only that, but your dog has a greater chance of being exposed to illnesses by other dogs, although most dog daycares screen for illness and other infectious diseases.

A dog walker can be a good solution if you are willing to let your dog stay home while you are away. The dog walker will take your dog to the bathroom, as well as get it some exercise. Although the dog will be with a dog walker instead of a family member, it will not be placed in an unfamiliar environment. The familiarity with its surroundings should keep it from being stressed. Not only that, but it will also help your dog to become friendly around other people. This will make it easier for the dog each time you are not able to be there.

In terms of cost, hiring a dog walker is usually much cheaper than paying for dog daycare. Dog daycare centers have to charge more because they house your dog on a full-time basis and provide more attention than a dog walker can. Most dog walkers are flexible and can give your dog extra attention or exercise if requested. Hiring a regular dog walker can be a good solution if you’re out during the day.

Keep a Dog Walker’s Contact Info Handy

Many dog owners don’t rely on the services of a dog walker on a regular basis. For whatever reason, they just don’t need to have their dog walked by a professional. This may be good for them, but they should make sure they have the contact information for a local dog walking service in the event a need arises.

Some dog walking services, especially those operated by larger companies, require a meet and greet prior to engaging in services. This is to ensure the dog walker and dog get along well. Unfortunately, this does not work out well for dog owners who need a dog walker immediately.

It’s recommended that dog owners make contact with a local dog walker in the event the need arises. Even if you need to pay for the introduction session, it’s important to have a dog walker’s contact information handy. In the event that a dog owner need the services of a dog walker, it will be good to have the name and number of one on hand.
